Ryan Ehrhardt- Heated Butter Knife

Heated Butter Knife

Problem: Spreading butter is a task that shouldn’t be a commonly occurring hassle. When the butter is in the refrigerator and you take it out to spread it upon a beautiful golden piece of toast it shouldn’t be a struggle to get a perfect coating of butter layered on top of it. Although you can leave the butter at room temperature so it’s easier to spread, I particularly do not like the idea.

Solution: My idea is for there to be an ordinary looking butter knife to have a heated blade so that spreading and slicing butter comes at ease. The heat would only be spread throughout the blade, so that the handle is the same as any other butter knife. Going about heating the knife could either be batteries or charging the knife then simply flicking a switch to activate a perfect butter spreader.

Idea Generation- This product would target distributers or vendors who would want to sell the product in their stores. Also competitors who want to copy the idea and try to make it better. Finally, customers who hate the fact that spreading cold butter is annoying.

Idea Screening- Tests would be run for the public to see if the product would have a positive or negative popularity.

Business Analysis- After the tests have been done, how many should be made and how much the knives should be sold for realizing how much it takes to be made and how much profit is wanted.

Development- Different designs of the knife would be made. Some different designs may include: a fancy knife, casual knife, different shapes, and different colors.

Test Marketing- The knife would be tested in a couple different areas. First, safety, the knife would be tested to make sure that it is safe when used correctly. Then in effectiveness, after making sure the knife is safe, checking how well the knife works is next.

Commercialization- The knife then would be advertized in stores, food magazines, television, internet, and food events.
